Can't Wait for Football

We're glad it's fall. The days are getting cooler and shorter. The routines of life settle in. It's a beautiful season.
To top it all off, it's time for some football! We really enjoy  football. College football is great. And the NFL is almost as much fun for us. This year, we'll get to experience to California high school football, too. Jericho is playing in the Clovis West band, and they have a great Queen halftime show. I feel fairly confident that we'll catch a couple games.
We enjoyed 8 great football seasons in Morgantown, West Virginia. It's one of America's great college football towns. Morgantown is small enough that everything grinds to a halt when 65,000 pull into the stadium for home games. On game days, Mountaineer Field temporarily becomes the largest "city" in the whole state.
Our first two years, WVU was rebuilding with new coach Rich Rodriguez. After that, the Mountaineers started a great streak when they competed not only for the Big East championship but also the national championship. I was present on a cold, December evening when WVU only had to win their last game to seal a spot in the national championship game. A 3-7 Pitt team came in and stymied the Mountaineer offense. A normally reliable kicker missed two field goals, and WVU lost a stunner 13-9. Despite that heartache, being in the hunt for a national championship was incredibly fun.

We also lived through two Super Bowl wins with the Steelers. Being close to Pittsburgh, we got to feel the excitement of being in a winning fan base. Very intoxicating.
So I'm ready for another football season. I have my tickets for one of this weekend's best games: Fresno State vs. Cincinnati. Talk about a big game with major implications for both teams! I hope it's a good one. Go Bulldogs!

And I'm pulling for a great year for the Mountaineers. With 17/18 returning starters, they should be primed for a run at the Big East championship & maybe even a top ten finish. If they can beat LSU on the road, watch out!

The Steelers will be lucky to make the playoffs this year. Too much uncertainly in the quarterback role and still no reliable running game. We'll see.

Well Jason I know that you may never love the Bulldogs like you love your Mountaineers but I at least hope that you bought your tickets to the Fresno v. Cincinnati game so that you could go and root for the bulldogs instead of buying the tickets to root against a Big East rival.

You can at least find solace in the fact that in Fresno, it will be 99 degrees instead of 9 degrees at game time; our band does not play the theme song to Deliverance as I am sure they do in West Virgina; and when someone has the last name "Rodriguez" in Fresno, they actually are Hispanic.
